Tucked into the lanes of Chernex, a few minutes above Montreux, Rural 4 is a self-contained maisonette of around 80 m², converted from a late-19th-century farm building.
The renovation was conceived around restraint: keeping rather than replacing, revealing the original stone walls and beams, favouring natural materials, and improving comfort with wood-fibre insulation, a pellet stove and close attention to indoor air quality and resource use.
The house is arranged over three levels. On the ground floor, a space of around 20 m² holds a reading corner, a desk and a small boudoir, completed by an 11 m² cellar-laundry. On the first floor, a 35 m² open floor brings together the kitchen, the dining area and a double-height living room, plus the bathroom. Above it, a mezzanine of around 15 m², designed as an open suite, holds the double bed, the dressing area and a washbasin.
Rural 4 comfortably accommodates up to 3 guests: two in the mezzanine's double bed and one on the convertible sofa in the living room. A baby cot can also be provided.
Steps from Chernex station and easily reached from the A9, the maisonette suits both a few days away and a longer professional stay. Montreux, Lake Geneva, Lavaux and Chillon castle are all quickly accessible, as are the main employment centres of the Riviera and the Chablais — around Montreux, Villeneuve and Vouvry.

Yes. Montreux's lakeside promenade and the Jazz Festival auditorium are 15 minutes down the hill by car, Chillon castle a little further on, and the village of Chernex is a quiet base above the lake, with the Lavaux and Chablais wine country in reach.
